Run Windows Update for:

Windows Server 2003

1. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button. Then click “All Programs”, looking for “Windows Update” and click it.

2. An Internet Explorer will appear loading Windows Update website (URL http://update.microsoft.com)

3. Click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.

4. If any updates are found, click Install updates.

Windows Server 2008

1. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button. Then click “All Programs”, looking for “Windows Update” and click it.

2. In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.

3. If any updates are found, click Install updates.

 

Windows Server 2012

1. Press Winkey+X, y (System), select Windows Update (bottom of left panel)

2. In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.

3. If any updates are found, click Install updates.

This article is applicable for the users who have subscribed to the Windows Dedicated Server. Or Windows VPS server and have the access to Remote Desktop Login (RDP)

At times you will encounter the error as above when you are trying to remote desktop to the server. And therefore you may perform the below steps:-

Start > Run > type in the command as “mstsc -v:ServerIP:RDPport /F -admin”

Enter the administrator login and password as usual and once you are logged in to the server may proceed to:-

Start >> Administrative Tools >> Terminal Services Manager >> Select the user and log off

In Windows 2003 server , all the domains and subdomains will have the following format of physical path :

C:\Domains\domain.com\wwwroot (web pages)

C:\Domains\domain.com\db (database)

C:\Domains\domain.com\wwwroot\subdomain_name (sub domain directory)

C:\Domains\domain.com\logs (log files)

Example:

You have a domain namely abc.com and a subdomain name test.abc.com , the physical path will be as follow :

C:\Domains\abc.com\wwwrootC:\Domains\abc.com\db

C:\Domains\abc.com\wwwroot\test

Window VPS: How to install FTP service in IIS6

1) Insert the Window Installation CD – DISK 1.

2) Login into your VPS using remote desktop (RDP)

3) Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components

4) Go to Application server > Internet Information Services (IIS) > Enabled File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

Troubleshooting Conficker Problem

Steps to scan server due to Conficker:

1. Download Microsoft® Windows® Malicious Software Removal Tool from microsoft website (check the latest version of this application)
2. Copied this malicious removal tool to affected server and run it
3. Run full scan (at least you could find 2 affected files of conficker) and stop the scanning
4. Disable file/printer sharing from network properties
5. Disabled port 445
– You could check it before you disable using below command:
netstat -na | find “445” (you shall able to view lots and lots of port 445 being opened)
5. Disable port 445:
——————————

You can easily disable port 445 on your computer. To do so follow these instructions:

a. Firstly, Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
b. Then, Locate the following key in the registry:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\ Services\NetBT\Parameters

c. In the right-hand side of the window find an option called TransportBindName.
d. Double click that value, and then delete the default value, thus giving it a blank value.
e. Close the registry editor

6. Apply conficker patches.
7. Restart server
8. Lastly, Run windows update and apply windows to latest patches.

3. Add a Domain by click on the Domain as image.

a) www record.

b) domain record.
Record Name: (Leave it blank)

c) wildcard record.
Record Name: * (represent asterisk symbol)

What is a CSR? A CSR or Certificate Signing request is a block of encoded text that is given to a Certificate Authority when applying for an SSL Certificate. It is usually generated on the server where the certificate will be installed and contains information that will be included in the certificate such as the organization name, common name (domain name), locality, and country.

Below is the step to generate the CSR from IIS7/8 which on Window server 2008/2012.

1) From the Start screen, click or search for Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager and open it.

2) In the Connections panel on the left, then click the server name for which you want to generate the CSR.

3) In the middle panel, double-click Server Certificates.

4) In the Actions panel on the right, click Create Certificate Request….

5) Enter the following Distinguished Name Properties, and then click Next:

Note: 

Common Name – The name through which the certificate will be accessed (usually the fully-qualified domain name, e.g., www.mondoze.com or mondoze.com).

Organization – However ,The legally registered name of your organization/company.

Organizational unit – The name of your department within the organization (frequently this entry will be listed as “IT,” “Web Security,” or is simply left blank).

City/locality – In other words ,The city in which your organization is located.

State/province – The state in which your organization is located.

Country/region – Country Code

6) In the “Cryptographic Service Provider Properties” window, select Microsoft RSA SChannel Cryptographic Provider. Select 2048 or higher for Bit Length, then click NEXT.

7) Lastly, Select the file name of the CSR (.txt) and click FINISH.

The CSR (Certificate Signing Request) key of the domain is on that file that created on Step 7.

NetBIOS over TCP/IP allows host name resolution for NetBIOS names over the TCP/IP protocol. By disabling NetBIOS TCP/IP support is to improve performance, it’s recommended that you disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP on your cluster network NIC and other dedicated purpose.

To disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP support

  1. From the Network and Internet icon in Control Panel , select Local Area Connection and right-click Properties.
  2. On the General tab, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the list of components, and click the Properties button. Disable NetBIOS-TCP IP support-Ethernet Status

Steps of set up private nameservers for Window server:

For Window server installed Website Panel:

1. Log in your website panel interface by using IP address : yourserveripaddress:9001 .

2. Click on Configuration tab and choose Server .

3. Select DNS server and update the nameservers then click on Update .

Create A record for private nameservers:

If your domain name will be hosted in your Window server , you may need to update ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com A record by go to Customers then select your domain name . In this article , the example domain name is yourdomain.com .

1. Seek for your domain for example yourdomain.com by go to Customers tab

2. Select the domain name and click Domain icon.

3 .Click on the domain name under the list and under DNS select Edit DNS zone records.

4. Select “Add Record” for new creation .

5. Please use the format as below:

Record Type: A
Record Name: ns1
IP: yourserverIP

6. Click on Save.

7. Repeat steps 5 to add in the record for ns2 .
